President Ruto in a past presser at the State House Nairobi.
As promised the President did not take long before announcing the much awaited new cabinet a week after disbanding the previous one due to vehement protesting from the Gen Z. As much as the cabinet is new it does not consist of new people as such. He still retained individuals from the previous cabinet who included the ministers of interior, defence, environment and lands and changed the portfolios of two other ministers. This was contrary to the expectations of many Kenyans who thought that because of the recent protests that led to the death of more than 50 people, he would name a cabinet with no political background, youthful, and professionals. The new guys for instance the new minister for education Julius Ogamba was the running mate for the outgoing education minister Ezekiel Machogu which emphasizes the President’s sense of humor.
There are rumors that the remaining seats will be filled by Azimio affiliated individuals but some of the Azimio leaders have refuted the claims. The president promised to finish the list in the coming weeks and also provide the assignments for the just announced cabinet.

Many Kenyans took to twitter to express their opinions on the new cabinet with majority saying they reject the list that was provided. One of them, Hanifa Farsafi, who was at the forefront of the recently concluded demonstrations in Nairobi posted the list of nominees on X with the word “REJECTED” stamped across it in red. The list will be presented to parliament that was burnt a while ago for vetting before approval. It is just a matter of time before we know the fate of the 11 and the others to come and whether will have a cabinet to run Ruto’s government or not.
