Car deal Khalif Kairo released on a 2 million shillings bail
Nairobi-based car dealer Khalif Kairo was released on bail totaling KSh 2 million, following his arraignment on fraud charges. He faces two counts of cheating, each carrying a KSh 1 million cash bail, for allegedly failing to deliver vehicles after receiving payments from clients.
The prosecution initially opposed bail, labeling Kairo a flight risk due to a pre-booked flight to New York scheduled before his arrest. However, Kairo’s defense contended that the trip was business-related and planned prior to the charges. The court, finding no compelling reason to deny bail, granted his release.
The charges against Kairo involve allegations of receiving substantial sums from clients through his company, Kai & Karo Limited, without delivering the agreed-upon vehicles. One client reportedly paid KSh 2,984,998 for a Subaru Outback, while another paid KSh 2,145,150 for a Honda Vezel Hybrid, neither of which were delivered.
Kairo is scheduled to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on February 14, 2025, where further proceedings will be outlined.
