All major football transfers that happened this January


With major signings and loan agreements made by clubs throughout Europe to bolster their rosters for the second half of the season, the January 2025 transfer window has officially ended.

Aston Villa created news when they signed several important players. Marcus Rashford from Manchester United came on loan with the intention of getting back to his best, and Marco Asensio joined to strengthen Villa’s assault. Axel Disasi of Chelsea also joined on loan, strengthening their defence.

As they compete for the Premier League title, Manchester City made a significant acquisition by acquiring Spanish player Nico González to bolster their midfield depth. In the meantime, Tottenham Hotspur expanded their attacking options by signing young forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich on loan with a buyout option. Ben Chilwell of Chelsea was unexpectedly acquired by Crystal Palace in London, strengthening their defence with experience. James Ward-Prowse was brought back by West Ham from Nottingham Forest in the hopes that his set-piece skills and leadership would have an effect.

In Europe, João Félix finished his transfer to AC Milan, and Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka signed a loan with Borussia Dortmund. Petar Sucić, a Croatian prospect, was recruited by Inter Milan, and Álvaro Morata unexpectedly moved to Galatasaray. Sergio Ramos, meanwhile, joined Rayados in Mexico, going to try something completely new. By extending Manuel Neuer’s contract until June 2026, Bayern Munich made sure that there would be stability between the posts. By acquiring Xavi Simons, RB Leipzig also made a significant acquisition.

Now that the window has closed, clubs will concentrate on utilising these acquisitions to further their league campaigns.
