Disorder in UDA: Omar replaces Malala as Sec Gen
The UDA ruling party in Kenya removed Cleophas Malala as secretary general, appointing Hassan Omar in his place.
The decision was due to Malala’s contemptuous behavior towards the party. In response, the party will implement new governance measures.
Tensions escalated when Malala’s supporters violently protested his removal.
There is turmoil in the ruling party. Party members today at United Democratic Alliance the ruling party in Kenya decided to relieve Malala of his secretary general position and handed the seat to the current member for East Africa parliament former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar. The party members agreed in unison that the vibrant Cleophas Malala has been acting in contempt of the party and so it fit to give the secretary general responsibilities to Hassan Omar who will hold the position till further notice.
In a statement issued by the party today morning the committee said that, “National Executive Committee was convened today through the request of the members of the Committee to discuss, deliberate and agree on the way forward based on the events of the last few days in the Party and fundamentally, the events of the last few weeks in our Country,” the statement read.
“The appointment of Hon Cleophas Malala as the interim Secretary General is hereby revoked,” the party said.
“Resultantly, the Party will be implementing a raft of governing and administrative measures to accelerate its agenda and to set forth a distinctive path of inclusive, participative and consultative organisation,” added the statement.
Earlier this week, the party started having predicaments when the current chairperson Cecily Mbarire called for a an impromptu National Executive Council meeting on Friday at the Hustler Plaza. Cleophas Malala however filed an injunction in court barring the conduction of the meeting and instead slotting it for next week. There was intensive commotion at the party headquarters when youth armed with crude weapons stormed the building in the name of fighting for the former Kakamega senator.
