Farah Maalim under fire for threatening to kill 5000 Gen Z

The Daadab MP, Farah Maalim, came under heavy fire after a video he appeared to make saying that if he were president, he would kill 5,000 Gen Z demonstrators per day went viral. The contentious comments were made during demonstrations against Kenya’s Finance Bill 2024, in which a large number of younger Kenyans took part.

Maalim defended himself by saying that the tape had been altered and doctored to misrepresent his remarks. He said that because of his engagement in Somali politics, people from Somalia had twisted his utterances. The public’s response was robust, notwithstanding his defense, according to a Citizen TV report. Because of the incendiary character of the story, journalist Ken Mijungu of KTN News openly declared he would never have Maalim on his show again.

Maalim was not the subject of any official judicial or parliamentary proceedings, but the episode provoked strong criticism and calls for responsibility.
