A grassland fire erupted within the premises of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday evening, February 21, 2025. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) reported that the blaze occurred along Airport North Road, affecting non-operational grassland areas. Emergency response teams, including units from the Kenya Defence Forces, Nairobi County Fire Department, and KAA’s Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Service, were promptly dispatched to the scene. KAA has assured the public that the fire has not impacted critical infrastructure or operational zones of the airport, and all flight schedules, passenger processing, and cargo handling activities continue uninterrupted.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire began around 7 p.m., with flames visible near the airport’s runway. Despite the proximity, flight operations have remained unaffected, and planes have continued to land safely.

Authorities are actively managing the situation to prevent any escalation and ensure the safety of all passengers and staff. The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed. KAA emphasizes that all airport activities remain fully operational and unaffected by the incident.
