Top 5 Today: 2024 KCSE Results Out and Other Headlines
Education CS, Migos Ogamba, has this morning has officially released the much-awaited results for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Ogamba issued a statement from Mtihani House on Thursday, January 9, announcing that a total of 962,512 candidates sat for the national examinations.
840 candidate’s results were cancelled following exam irregularities. 2,829 candidates will have to wait a little longer for their results pending investigations, for exam malpractices, said Ogamba.
The results were presented to President William Ruto in State House, before the official announcement.
How To Access KCSE Results
Individual results can be accesed through a link on the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) website.
1. Students are asked to visit the official KNEC portal through the secure link:
2. They will be required to enter their index number and any of their names per their KCSE registration data.
3. After the prompts, if the details are correct, click on the “View Results” tab and the KCSE results will be displayed.
4. Result slips, however, shall be available at the examination centres where the candidates sat their exams.
Incorrect names, grades, or any discrepancies should be reported to KNEC within a month of the results release.
NB: Results will not be available on through SMS codes after numerous complaints by parents and students over the years.
First Dutch Royal Family Visit to Kenya
The Dutch royal family is on their first-ever state visit to Kenya. His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will be in the country from Tuesday, 18 March to Thursday, 20 March 2025.
Kenya and the Netherlands share a vision for global and regional cooperation and have a long-standing economic, political, and social relations.
A statement from the Dutch Royal Family noted, “The Netherlands and Kenya maintain close economic relations and are gateways to large regions. This visit reaffirms our commitment to work together actively towards democracy, rule of law, and independence of the judiciary.”
New Rules For Nairobi CBD Hawkers
In an official statement by the Nairobi City Council dated January 6th, 2025, a new set of rules and regulations, on street hawking, has been issued to take effect immediately.
Acting County Secretary, Godfrey Akumali, pointed out designated areas and times, in a bid to ease pedestrian movement and maintain peace and order in the CBD.
- the designated backstreets and lanes extends from Tom Mboya Street to Kirinyaga Road.
- hawking is between Monday and Saturday, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM
- hawking on major roads and streets within the CBD is prohibited: Moi Avenue, Haile Selassie Avenue, Kenneth Matiba Road, Latema Road, Ronald Ngala Street, Mfangano Street, Hakati Road, and River Road.
- all walkways within the Central Business District are strictly for pedestrians and not trading.
Los Angeles Is Grappling With Wild Fires
A random wild fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday near the world-famous Hollywood sign. It spread across 27, 000 combined acreage of Palisades and Eaton, overnight with no sign of containment.
So far, 5 people have been reported dead in California following the wind-driven fires blazing across Los Angeles County. The fires which remain mostly uncontained have led to evacuation orders by the L.A. County.
Malibu and Santa Monica are the most affected areas, destroying at least 1,000 structures. Despite LA experiencing wild fires, time and again, this is the most destructive ever in Los Angeles County history.
137,000 people have been evacuated so far with efforts to contain the raze and restore power are still ongoing. Two schools have been razed to the ground and schools have been closed in the area until further notice.
