University Students Block Highways Over HELB New Model

Today, students of University of Nairobi (UoN), stormed Anniversary Towers, which host the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) offices, protesting delays in loan disbursements.

They were expressing their frustration over the prolonged wait for the funds, leaving many vulnerable and unable to cover academic and personal expenses. The angry comrades attempted to force entry into the HELB premises amid heavy security.

Traffic along Thika Road was also paralysed as Kenyatta University made their way towards CBD to join their UoN comrades over the issue.

Following the incident, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) announced that it had resorted to disbursing the funds to first and second-year students using the old model as they await a decision on appeal against the High Court suspension of the new model.
